A New Trio is Born -- Gathering Time!

We've finally arrived. My friends Hillary Foxsong, Stuart Markus and I have been singing together (secretly) for a while now, and with the selection of a name we've finally decided to emerge! Many have known us as "the un-namable trio" but with fanfare, excitement and determination we have released our first single, a rousing new rendition of the Peter, Paul & Mary holiday classic, Light One Candle. Check in with your favorite folk DJ to hear where it's airing -- even in Israel!

You can also visit our MySpace page right now for some instant gratification and to request a copy (if you're a DJ), or visit our new website, http://www.gatheringtimetrio.com.

More gratitude - this time for another great revue!

I hope this doesn't sound like bragging, but quite frankly I'm so proud and honored I could pop!

"...just GREAT..... Performances 'straight from the heart'!!!"
      - Jean Alain Roussel (Cat Stevens, Celine Dion,
Bob Marley & The Wailers, Thin Lizzy, 10cc, The Police)

Jean recorded 12 albums with Cat Stevens, including his (Yusuf Islam) recent Another Cup. Can you blame me for being excited?

New Glen Roethel CD, Smaller ThingsJohn Platt's City Folk Sunday Breakfast (WFUV, 90.7 FM, New York) Debuts New Glen Song, "You"

Listen to the WFUV streaming archive of the show here (I'm about one hour into the show.) Thank you, John Platt! For anyone who isn't familiar with John Platt's City Folk Sunday Breakfast, it's simply a wonderful place to stay on the pulse of the new acoustic music scene in the Metro New York area. John is the hardest working DJ and most passionate music lover I've ever met. You'll see him everywhere -- wherever good, new live acoustic music can be found -- there he is! His program streams on the web, too. Click here to read more about the show. ~ Click here to tune in from near or afar.

Glen Roethel, Stuart Markus, Hillary Foxsong and Barry Kornhauser play Harry Chapin song, Sandy

Just Wild About Harry Harry Chapin tribute concert a great success!

Perfect weather, great support from the media and a general desire to honor the man brought nearly 3,000 fans and listeners to the Harry Chapin Memorial Bandshell at Eisenhower Park this day. For the price of a canned food donation you could enjoy the great lawn and dozens of Long Island's finest performers playing their own renditions of Harry Chapin favorites. The local musicians who participated couldn't say enough about the family feel to the evening, and thanks to our friend Stuart Markus, the organizer, Long Island Cares collected 1,305 pounds of food as well as $685 in donations at the concert -- the largest collection so far! Kudos to Stuart for his excellent work!

Did you miss the show? Don't worry! You can watch the entire concert online here!

[personal note: Oh...I performed "Sandy," a gorgeous love song he penned for his wife. Of course, I couldn't have done it without my magical, musical friends Stuart Markus (guitar/vocal), Hillary Foxsong (beautiful vocals!) and Barry Kornhauser (mellow cello) -- thanks guys!]

Song "People of the Earth" To Be Published in New Songbook by Association of Unity Churches International

"People of the Earth," another inspirational track from Glen's upcoming release, "Smaller Things" will appear in the new Unity songbook, Special Services and Chants, Volume 2, to be published this month (June, 2007) by the Association of Unity Churches International. The song, according to Glen, was partially inspired by the writings of Wallace Black Elk, a Lakota Medicine Man, in his book Black Elk: The Sacred Ways of a Lakota in which he emphasizes the Lakota belief that all things are sacred and that we are all one.

"Children Speak: Tsunami" - Multimedia Exhibit to feature "Namaste'" by Glen Roethel

At the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum, College Station, Texas a collection of artwork by child survivors of the 2004 tsunami portrays the children's perspective of the disaster, their hopeful view of the world and the resilience of the human spirit. Glen's music is featured in the library exhibit and on a DVD of the show.

In the first quarter of 2007, the exhibit DVD will be distributed within a book of the artist's photographs and photo-journey in the South Pacific.

Acceptance and Love: A Recipe for Change

"I've listened to your CD several times, Glen. Let's plan a service together." That was quite a review from Rev. Ratzlaff at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington (New York). So Reverend Paul and I collaborated on his Sunday morning service on this day, and while the format was quite unusual, an almost "talk-show, interview" style, the message was solid. Together we wove sermon and song to explore the powers of acceptance and self-love to enable us to make change. It was very beautiful.

To learn more about the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington and the great work they do, visit http://www.uufh.org. Also, for my fellow musicians, be sure to check out their coffehouse, the Last Licks Cafe'. They have great shows and wonderful open-mic opportunities. Come early for sign-up (just 10 slots available) and tell 'em Glen sent ya!
